At High Seas
Expedition you’ll explore the mighty love of God! Get ready for
a swashbuckling adventure through God’s Word, and discover that
God shows His powerful love throughout scripture. This exciting
Vacation Bible School is for everyone between the ages of 3 thru
grade 5, and we will have an adult class.
High Seas
Expedition is awash with fun! Everyone involved in this VBS
will dive into God’s Word…. and never be the same again! Not
only do kids experience amazing Bible adventures but they’ll
also watch for God in everyday life through something we call
God Sightings. Kids discover that God is active in our lives
and that his fingerprints are everywhere.
Middle schoolers,
high schoolers, and adults interested in being a teacher or
helper can register online. The nursery will be staffed each
night of VBS for those who have children younger than 3 and want
to attend the adult class or help teach. Please register for
the adult class and for nursery care online.

Day 1 - Rejoice With Liz

Bible Story
-
After the parting
of the Red Sea, Miriam danced, sang and rejoiced in God's
protection of the Israelites. The desert collared lizard is
known for being able to run on its hind legs, which makes it
appear as though it's dancing, just like Miriam.
Bible Memory Verse
-
God
Most High, I will rejoice; I will celebrate and sing because of
you.
(Psalm 9:2)
Liz the
Lizard -
This lizard runs on its hind
legs, reaching speeds as high as 16 miles per hour. WOW
Day 2 - Pray With Max

Bible Story
-
Hannah was devoted to God in prayer. She bowed down and prayed to
God day and night. The praying mantis is named because of its
typical "prayer-like" stance. It reminds us of Hannah's devotion to
prayer.
Bible Memory
Verse -
My heart tells me to
pray.
(Psalm 27:8)
Max the Praying Mantis -
The Praying Mantis is known for its large front
legs, which it holds together in a way that makes it look like it's
praying. The Praying Mantis smells through its antennae, can swivel
its head 180 degrees, and its excellent eyesight allows it to see
movement up to 60 feet away. WOW!
Day 3 - Ask With Olivia

Bible Story
-
When Jesus calmed the storm, the disciples were shocked and amazed.
They asked, "Who is this?" wondering who could be powerful enough to
stop a storm. The owl's distinct call of "hoo hoo" reminds us of the
disciples questioning.
Bible Memory Verse
-
I ask for your help, LORD
God, and You will keep me safe.
(Psalm 55:16)
Olivia the Owl
-
The
Burrowing Owl gets it name because their nests are burrowed into
the ground. The Burrowing Owl can grow up to 10 inches tall and
can live at least 9 years in the wild and over 10 years in
captivity. WOW!
Day 4 - Tell With Blossum

Bible Story
-
When Jesus healed the dying girl and the sick woman, the news spread
quickly. People couldn't wait to tell others about Jesus' miracles.
Burros are known for their loud voices and can be heard for almost 2
miles. Their news spreads quickly too.
Bible Memory
Verse -
Sing praises to the LORD! Tell about His miracles. (Psalm 105:2)
Blossum the Burro -
The Burro can
travel in herds as large as 100 members and they defend themselves
with a powerful kick of their hind legs. Unlike horse fur, Burro fur
is not waterproof, so they must have shelter when it rains. WOW!
Day 5 - Seek With Felix

Bible Story
-
The friends of the crippled man had to
travel a long way in order to seek the help of Jesus. Foxes are known to
work hard to seek out a safe and cozy burrow, which reminds us of the
safety and comfort we seek in Jesus.
Bible Memory Verse
- Let the
hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.
(Psalm 105:3)
Felix the Fox -
The Grey Fox is
the only member of the dog family that can climb trees. Grey Foxes are
small, averaging 2-4 feet in length, while their tail can grow up to
11-16 inches long. WOW!
Schedule
Dinner will begin promptly at 5:30 P.M. each evening in the
fellowship hall at Goose Creek Methodist Church.
VBS will begin promptly at 6:15 P.M. each evening with an
opening celebration in the sanctuary. Parents are encouraged to
attend the opening with your child. Then from 6:30-8:15 P.M.
the children will rotate through exciting activity sites. From
8:15-8:25 P.M. everyone will gather in the sanctuary for the
closing celebration. Parents are invited to attend the closing,
or they will need to come into the sanctuary to pick up their
child at 8:25 P.M.
Adult Class
Our
Associate Pastor, The Rev. Brad Bellah will teach an adult
class entitled "The
Life You've Always Wanted: Spiritual Disciplines for Ordinary
People" based on the book by the same title by John Ortberg.
The adult class will attend the
opening, go to its own classroom for the lesson, and then finish
in the sanctuary for the closing. Can’t make it the entire week?
That’s OK. You can attend all 5 nights, just one night, or
anywhere in between.
Offering
Children are encouraged to give an offering each night along
with a canned food item. All monetary offerings and canned
goods will go to Lords Ladle.
Closing Program and Picnic
We will have our closing program Saturday June 27th
at 12:00 P.M. All children and their families are encouraged to
attend! Each class will give a presentation. Please wear your
VBS t-shirt! Following the program in the sanctuary (about
12:30 P.M.), we will bless the food and walk outside for a
picnic lunch. We will provide the hamburgers, hotdogs, and
buns. We ask you to bring a drink or a side dish to share. The
sign-up sheet will be posted in the narthex during the week of
VBS.
T-shirts
Get into the excitement with a Discovery Canyon t-shirt! Just
bring a t-shirt (of any solid color) with you to VBS Monday
through Thursday nights. We will iron on our VBS logo and
return it to you that same night. We hope you will wear your
t-shirt to VBS each evening and especially wear it Saturday for
our program and picnic.
If you have any questions, please call Vicki Morris (327-7316) –
Discovery Canyon Director.
