Music is a powerful tool for ministry. it helps us praise, pray, and give thanks to God. Music speaks what cannot be expressed in words alone. It soothes the mind, heals the heart, calms and lifts the spirit. Music is a gift from God.
The Music Ministries of St. Timothy evolve according to the musical gifts of the persons involved. However great or small your talents, there is a place for you in our music ministries. We hope this webpage will help you find a way to "make a joyful noise" unto the Lord at St. Timothy. Our Music Ministries include:
Chancel Choir is our traditional choir and is open to adults, as well as older youth, and serves the 8:30 a.m. service of worship. Chancel Choir rehearses Wednesday evenings at 7:00 during the school year.
Early Bird Musicians is a group of organ, woodwind, handbell and brass musicians that accompany congregational hymns and anthems. As part of our traditional worship team, this group plays an important role in leading worship on Sundays at 8:30, as well as services on Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Christmas Eve, and on Wednesday evenings in Advent and Lent.
Flute Choir is open to all flute players by audition. The Flute Choir participates in traditional worship services on Christmas Eve and Easter. Individuals from the Flute Choir are members of the Early Bird Musicians and Joyful Noise. The Flute Choir has played at Charleston's own Piccolo Spoleto Festival and is available for weddings at certain times of the year.
Brass Ensemble forms for Christmas Eve and Easter and special services. Individual members also play with the Early Bird Musicians.
Festival Choir is a seasonal choral group, made up of Chancel Choir, Joyful Noise, and members of the congregation. This group is for anyone, high school aged to 100, with choir/chorus/singing experience who would like to sing on Christmas Eve at the 11:00 p.m. service or Easter Sunday at the 8:30 a.m. service. Rehearsals are normally Wednesday evenings during Advent and Lent.
Joyful Noise is the music ensemble that leads our 11 a.m. contemporary service. It is made up of singers and instrumentalists who use a variety of musical styles and resources, such as popular contemporary Christian music, Spirituals, jazz, funk, folk hymns, old traditional hymns, and global music, to lead the congregation in worship. Joyful Noise rehearses Sunday mornings at 9:45 and occasionally on Thursday evenings at 7:00. Joyful Noise also leads worship on Christmas Eve at 8 p.m. and on Good Friday.
